Hundreds in Reno Rally to Resist Trump at Earth2Trump Roadshow

16-city Tour Opposing Trump Attacks on Environment, Civil Rights Stops Tonight in Tucson, Sunday in Salt Lake City

RENO, Nev.— Hundreds of people in Reno Friday night rallied against Donald Trump's attacks on the environment and civil rights during the latest stop of the cross-country Earth2Trump roadshow of resistance. The event followed equally packed Earth2Trump events in Seattle and Oakland on Jan. 2, Portland on Jan. 3, and Los Angeles on Jan. 4.

The two-route,16-stop national tour features free shows with live music, national and local speakers and a chance for participants to write personalized Earth2Trump messages that will be delivered to Washington, D.C., on inauguration day Jan. 20. The Center for Biological Diversity is organizing the shows in coordination with allied groups around the country, including the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada.

“We're here because Donald Trump poses an unprecedented risk to our environment, civil rights and democracy,” said Valerie Love, a political organizer with the Center who spoke in Reno. “But people are rising up to resist. This is a national movement that's standing up for wildlife, the planet, equality and social justice. Thousands of people are joining us on this 16-city tour and thousands more from around the country have signed a pledge to resist his administration.”

The show in Reno included local hip hop duo MoMatik, and two singer/songwriters traveling with the tour, Dana Lyons and Makana. Attendees also signed a pledge of resistance and added their personal pledges and pleas into large hand-painted globes bound for D.C. Representatives for local groups — including PLAN, Planned Parenthood, Reno Progressive Democrats of America, UNR Latinx Advisory Board, NV Stands with Standing Rock – also spoke and tabled at the event.

"The overwhelming response and enthusiasm for the Earth2Trump rally shows why Nevada was a bright spot during this election season,” Ellen Moore, Mining Justice Organizer, Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada. “Our community opposes hate and bigotry and is willing to stand up and resist in order to protect our democracy, health and environment. We are more energized and united than ever.”
