CABIN OWNERS, FIREFIGHTERS AND LAWMAKERS TO SPEAK IN OPPOSITION TO BUSH’S FOREST PLAN AT 8 A.M. PRESS CONFERENCE, RALLY TO FOLLOW

Tucson, AZ--Conservation groups and local volunteers and organizers will hold a rally and press conference in Tucson Monday morning to send a message to the Bush Administration that they should focus on protecting fire-prone communities rather than limiting public involvement and promoting more old growth logging. President Bush is in town to visit the Aspen fire area and to promote his forest plan, the so-called “Healthy Forests Initiative”. The rally and conference will run from 8-10 am at the base of Mount Lemmon (in front of the Catalina Highway road closure).

Speakers at the rally will include:

  • U.S. Congressman Raúl Grijalva, Arizona District 7, U.S House of Representatives (INVITED)
  • Phil Lopes, Arizona State Representative, District 27
  • Claudia Ellquist, Cabin Owner/NFS Leasehold. Willow Canyon, Mount Lemmon
  • Zay Hartigan, Wildland and Urban-Interface Firefighter, Patagonia, Arizona
  • Gayle Hartmann, Mt. Lemmon Cabin Owner, Archeologist

The press conference will begin at 8 am. Food and coffee will be available. Rally immediately following press conference with fun, music and additional speakers.
